These 5 highways are the most dangerous in Georgia

On Behalf of | Jun 27, 2024 | Motor Vehicle Accidents, Personal Injury

Georgia’s roads carry millions of residents and visitors every day. This large volume of vehicles leads to traffic accidents everywhere. Still, there are stretches with higher risk than others. Knowing about these dangerous highways can be a potent reminder to be extra careful.

Georgia roads with the most fatal crashes

Data analysis in 2020 showed that these five highways in the state are demonstrably more dangerous based on fatalities:

  • Moreland Avenue (Georgia 42): A mix of commercial and residential areas, it was the location of 12 accidents resulting in 13 fatalities.
  • Interstate 20 (I-20): Running through DeKalb County, the section between Exit 71 and Exit 65 was the site of 11 fatal accidents.
  • Interstate 285 (I-285): This highway encircling Atlanta had 11 fatal accidents and consistently ranks among the deadliest in the state.
  • Georgia 85: This road from Exit 237A to Springdale Drive had 10 fatal accidents.
  • Old National Highway (Georgia 279): There were 10 fatal accidents here on this important road of the state.

Accidents can be due to a combination of factors, such as speeding, distracted driving, and potentially poor road conditions. In fact, the same report revealed that drunk driving contributed to 20 percent, while speeding is a factor in 19% of fatal crashes.

Defensive drivers can take action

The worst-case scenario for someone involved in a car accident is death. Other potential outcomes include damaged vehicles and severe injuries. None of them are positive experiences.

Responsible driving is crucial. However, accidents can still happen even to the most careful ones. If one did occur and you unfortunately sustained an injury due to someone else’s negligence, an experienced personal injury lawyer can help protect your rights to seek a fair award or settlement for damages.
