Trusted North Georgia Attorney Tackling Super Speeder Law Cases Head-On
Georgia’s Super Speeder Law aims to discourage drivers from reckless speeding and make the roads safer for everyone using it. If you have been declared a super speeder, you may face severe penalties that go beyond a typical speeding ticket. You need a trusted lawyer to walk you through your rights and legal options.
I am attorney William Healan III, a lawyer with over 25 years of experience navigating criminal defense in Georgia. Throughout my career, I have helped countless clients across North Georgia facing traffic violations, including Super Speeder charges. My law firm, Healan Law Offices, P.C., has been serving communities in Winder and Barrow County since 1975.
The Super Speeder Law targets drivers who drive at speeds of 75mph or more on a two-lane road or at speeds of 85mph or more on any highway. A person convicted as a Super Speeder may face additional penalties on top of their regular speeding fine. These include a $200 state fee and potential license suspension should they fail to pay within 120 days. This legislation aims to reduce high-speed crashes, which often result in severe injuries or fatalities.
How Do I Know If I Have Been Classified As A Super Speeder?
If a court finds you guilty of excessive speeding, you will receive a notification from the Department of Driver Services (DDS). They will send this letter by first-class mail to inform you about your Super Speeder status and the additional fines you need to pay. Remember, this notification arrives after your conviction and not during the traffic stop.
The DDS will send this letter to the address listed on your driver’s license. This is why it is crucial to keep your address up to date. If that information is not current and you miss this important notification, you might have your licenses suspended without you even knowing.
If you are unsure about your status or have received a Super Speeder ticket, remember that not all hope is lost. Feel free to contact my office today so we can review your case. Let us work together to address any potential issues with your driving record.
Does Super Speeder Law Apply Differently To Under 21 Drivers Vs. Over 21?
The Super Speeder Law in Georgia applies to all drivers, but its impact may vary significantly depending on your age. For drivers under 21, the consequences can be more severe. While the same speed thresholds apply, young drivers face stricter penalties under Georgia’s driver services regulations. If you are under 21 and convicted of speeding 24mph or more above the posted limit, the court could suspend your license for six months – even on your first offense. This is in addition to the Super Speeder fine.
Can You Lose Your License Over A Super Speeder Violation?
While a violation of Georgia’s Super Speeder law does not automatically lead to license suspension, it can set off a chain of events that might result in losing your driving privileges. If you fail to pay the $200 Super Speeder fine within 120 days of receiving the notice, the DDS may suspend your license. If the department suspends your license, you will need to pay a $50 fee on top of the original fine to regain your driving rights.
Getting caught driving with a suspended license escalates the situation dramatically. You could face arrest, spend at least two days in jail and face a fine of at least $500. Moreover, the department could extend your license suspension by an additional six months.
